The explanation of what Paddy Murphy Week is is best told by first telling the story of the legendary Paddy Murphy; 

Paddy Murphy was the right-hand man of Al Capone in Chicago in the 1920s helping him move unmarked and smuggled barrels of whiskey during the height of prohibition, always staying one step ahead of the federal agents, specifically "The Untouchables" lead by federal agent Elliot Ness, who was one of the only men in Chicago that could put a flash of fear in Al Capone's eyes. The legend goes one night on an anonymous tip Ness and his agents surrounded a warehouse on the southside where Murphy and his men were preparing a shipment, in the chaos Ness ordered Murphy to surrender, but Murphy did not, instead, he reached for his gun, and before he could grab it Ness delivered a fatal shot to the gangster's chest. Ness approached Murphy to read him his rights, and as he did Murphy reached out his hand and gave Ness the handshake that no brother of SAE can mistake. The agent then realized what he had done, looking into the eyes of his fraternal brother. Ness then dipped into one of the barrels of whiskey and went shot for shot with his brother until he died. Paddy Murphy left his entire estate to his wife but never specified who his wife was, in light of this nine women stepped forward to receive their inheritance and had to prove themselves worthy of it. 1

Paddy Murphy Week is a celebration of Paddy Murphy, as well as a week-long philanthropy event. During this week there will be fun events every day hosted by the brothers of SAE, with the purpose of raising money for charity and enjoying the company of friends.
